LinkedIn profile rental in India: how you earn and get paid
Only in India is the fee quoted and paid in rupees, so if a specialist accepts you, earning from a LinkedIn profile you already have comes down to your ITR, your state's GST limit and your employment contract.
Check whether your profile fits
LinkedIn’s User Agreement prohibits this directly. Its Don’ts (section 8.2) bar members from renting, leasing or otherwise monetising access to the service, and from using another member’s account, including by sharing log-in credentials or copying cookies. LinkedIn may restrict, suspend or permanently close an account it believes is shared, without warning. Read the full risk page before you apply.
The short answer
Fees in India are quoted in rupees and paid daily by UPI or bank transfer, never by PayPal, Wise or stablecoin. You can apply from India, and a fee follows only if a specialist finds your LinkedIn profile fits. Reporting the income is your job under the Income-tax Act 2025, which began on 1 April 2026, and GST registration comes into view at ₹20 lakh of turnover, or ₹10 lakh in four north-eastern states. LinkedIn's User Agreement bars renting out account access, and Indian residence makes no difference to that.

How the money reaches you in India
UPI or a bank transfer brings your fee in rupees, the same currency your rate is set in, every day from the day your campaign goes live. You convert nothing yourself, so there is no exchange rate to watch.
| Method | Status | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| UPI | Works | Paid to your UPI ID. Check your limit: IndusInd Bank's guide, updated in August 2025, says most banks and apps stop at ₹1 lakh in a day under NPCI's cap, and that the daily limit can be as low as ₹25,000. That is a bank's summary. We have not read the figure on NPCI's own page directly, so confirm your limit with your bank. Source |
| Bank transfer | Works | Paid to an Indian account, using your name as the bank holds it, the account number and the IFSC. If it travels by NEFT, RBI's FAQ says RBI imposes no limit of its own, although a member bank may. Source |
| PayPal | Not available | Not how owners based in India are paid here, so there is no need to open an account for this. Source |
| Wise | Not available | Not used for owners based in India. Wise's INR guide warns that a FIRC may be needed on its transfers to India. Source |
| Stablecoin (USDT/USDC) | Not available | Not how we pay anyone based in India. RBI's letter of 31 May 2021 says its 2018 restriction lost effect when the Supreme Court set it aside, but that banks may keep running due diligence on virtual-currency customers and should keep to FEMA on overseas remittances. So expect your bank to ask about any such offer. Source |
Because the payout is in rupees, you have no dollars of your own to convert. FEMA is the usual worry for Indians earning from abroad, and we have not checked how it touches your wider affairs, so raise it with your CA if you also have overseas clients. See getting paid by an overseas company.
Tax and declaring the income
The law itself changed this year. A CBDT press release of 1 April 2026, reproduced by TaxGuru, confirms that the Income-tax Act 2025 replaced the 1961 Act from 1 April 2026, so a rental starting now sits in tax year 2026-27 under the new Act and its section numbers.
How the income is classified is a question for your CA, and it decides your form. If it is treated as business or profession income, the e-filing portal (describing AY 2026-27) points to ITR-3, or ITR-4 on the presumptive basis, not a salary-only return.
Daily receipts make advance tax the item people miss. India Briefing's summary of section 404 says it applies once estimated tax for the year reaches ₹10,000 after TDS, naming freelancers and salaried people with other income. The cumulative dates are 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December and all of it by 15 March. For tax year 2026-27 the June and September dates have already passed. The summary does not say whether presumptive filers follow the same dates, so ask your CA if you would use ITR-4.
- GST is a separate question. Ask your CA whether hosting outreach is a taxable supply of services at all; the table below only shows where the registration limit sits.
- Save your bank statements and our monthly log by month, because your CA will want them for the advance tax instalments and the ITR. Our records checklist helps.
This is general information, not tax advice. Rules change; confirm your position with a local tax adviser.
GST registration limits: which states differ
This is the one place where your state changes a number. The limit looks at all-India aggregate turnover, and small service suppliers below it need not register, even when they supply outside their state. The CBIC flyer is undated, so confirm with your CA.
| State or union territory | What differs |
|---|---|
| Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura | The services limit is ₹10 lakh. |
| Everywhere else | The services limit is ₹20 lakh. That includes Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana and Uttarakhand, whose lower limit applies only to goods-only suppliers. |

Exclusivity clauses, CCS Conduct Rules and the DPDP Act to check
Start with your appointment letter. Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas wrote in 2022 that Indian law does not expressly define moonlighting, that the Factories Act and some state shops laws limit dual employment through working-hour rules, and that contract terms restricting second engagements are enforceable. It advises employers to make such clauses reach non-working hours and advisory work. So the live question is what you signed.
Central government staff face a harder rule. Rule 15 of the CCS (Conduct) Rules 1964 says no government servant may take part in a trade or business, or accept other employment, without the government's previous sanction. Rule 15(2) lists a few exceptions, such as occasional literary, artistic or scientific work, and we see none that obviously fits this. Treat that as a stop until you hold the sanction in writing. State and PSU staff should read their own conduct rules.
Data protection is arriving in stages. The DPDP Act 2023 leaves out data an individual processes for a personal or domestic purpose, but handing an outreach team an inbox of other people's messages is hard to call domestic. Hogan Lovells says the Data Protection Board provisions took effect when the Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, and that most duties start on 13 May 2027. How they apply to one person lending an account is unsettled, so speak to a lawyer first if your inbox holds client or patient data.
How much demand is there for profiles from India?
Most companies buying this outreach sell into the US, so a profile located in India with mainly Indian contacts sits in a much smaller pool. The opening is a network a buyer wants to reach: decision-makers at Indian firms for a company selling into India, or overseas contacts built over years of client work.
- Better odds: a senior title at an Indian firm, with budget holders at other Indian firms, or overseas clients from years of services work, among your connections.
- Weaker odds: a network made up mostly of batchmates, job-seekers and recruiters.
We do not publish a list of eligible countries, and living in India neither qualifies nor disqualifies you. A specialist reviews the actual profile. If you want a straight answer first, ask in the notes box when you apply.
How it works
- Apply, free. Industry, network size, commitment length. No documents, no fee.
- Human review. A specialist sends one monthly figure, normally within three business days, or says the profile is not a fit.
- You approve each campaign. Target lists and message templates come to you first, and your blocklist is set on an onboarding call.
- Daily payment from the day your campaign goes live, with a monthly log of everything sent. Pause any time; after the three-month initial term, 30 days' notice ends it.
The risk, in plain terms
LinkedIn’s User Agreement prohibits this directly. Its Don’ts (section 8.2) bar members from renting, leasing or otherwise monetising access to the service, and from using another member’s account, including by sharing log-in credentials or copying cookies. LinkedIn may restrict, suspend or permanently close an account it believes is shared, without warning.
That risk stays with you, and we do not indemnify you against losing the account or its connections. This is why we would not call it risk-free passive income, whatever other sites say. Read our safety and risk page and sections 4 and 5 of our Terms.
Businesses in India: renting LinkedIn accounts for outreach
The DPDP Act is the wider duty on Indian B2B outreach, once its notice and consent rules start on 13 May 2027 on Hogan Lovells' timetable. IndiaLaw's summary of TRAI's Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations 2018 describes them in terms of voice calls and messages and does not mention LinkedIn. We have not read the full Regulations directly, so confirm with a lawyer. Neither law is the first obstacle to renting accounts: LinkedIn's terms forbid that wherever the account sits.
Our page for businesses explains how account-based outreach is run and what it costs to think through.
Questions people in India ask
Can I earn money by renting my LinkedIn profile in India?
Yes, in rupees, if a specialist finds your profile fits. Most buyers sell into the US market, so a no is a real possibility, and LinkedIn can restrict or close an account it finds rented out.
Will LinkedIn rental money come on UPI?
Yes, UPI is one of the two routes for owners based in India, and bank transfer is the other. Where you live decides this, not your passport, so an Indian citizen living abroad would be paid in USD.
Is LinkedIn rental income taxable in India?
Plan on reporting it. Income from 1 April 2026 falls under the Income-tax Act 2025 and tax year 2026-27, and a CA can tell you which head and form apply. Advance tax can also arise once your estimated tax for the year reaches ₹10,000.
Do I need GST registration for LinkedIn rental income?
That depends on your total turnover and your state. CBIC's flyer puts the services limit at ₹20 lakh of all-India turnover, or ₹10 lakh in Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. Whether this income is a taxable supply at all is a point for your CA.
Is renting a LinkedIn account illegal in India?
We found no Indian statute that names it, but that is not a green light. It breaks LinkedIn's User Agreement, and your employment contract or conduct rules may forbid it separately. Central government staff need the government's previous sanction under Rule 15 of the CCS (Conduct) Rules.
