LinkedIn profile rental in Ghana: how you earn and get paid

The Bank of Ghana named Wise as unapproved in 2023 and PayPal does not list the country, so earning from your existing LinkedIn profile here, if you are accepted, means planning around a bank wire into a dollar account.

Check whether your profile fits

LinkedIn’s User Agreement prohibits this directly. Its Don’ts (section 8.2) bar members from renting, leasing or otherwise monetising access to the service, and from using another member’s account, including by sharing log-in credentials or copying cookies. LinkedIn may restrict, suspend or permanently close an account it believes is shared, without warning. Read the full risk page before you apply.

The short answer

In Ghana, plan on a bank wire into a dollar account, because PayPal does not list the country and the Bank of Ghana named Wise as unapproved in 2023. You can apply for LinkedIn profile rental from here; a specialist reviews the actual profile, your location alone neither qualifies you nor rules you out, and any fee would arrive in USD. Renting out account access is prohibited by LinkedIn's User Agreement, so that account risk falls on you. The income is declared to the Ghana Revenue Authority under your Ghana Card PIN.

How the money reaches you in Ghana

The Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723) sets the frame here: the Bank of Ghana quotes section 15(3) as requiring every transfer of foreign exchange into or out of Ghana to run through a licensed money-transfer business or an authorised dealer, and the cedi is the only legal tender. Any fee is quoted and paid in USD, and of the four usual methods only one is clear.

MethodStatusWhat to know
PayPalNot availablePayPal's worldwide country list, read on 2 November 2026, shows Nigeria, Togo and Côte d'Ivoire but has no entry for Ghana. In 2025 the communications minister said the government had reopened talks with PayPal to restore full access; we found nothing showing that has happened. The Bank of Ghana's 2023 notice on unapproved firms also names Xoom, a PayPal service. Guides telling you to register the account under another country are no basis for a daily income. Pick another route. Source
WiseCheck firstSettle this before anything else. Bank of Ghana Notice BOG/FMD/2023/78 of 16 November 2023 named Wise among eight firms operating without approval and cautioned the public, banks and e-money issuers to stop dealing with them. Its June 2025 list names ten different firms, but we found no notice clearing Wise, and the remittance companies page lists one firm, which is not Wise. Wise's help page still publishes cedi delivery, to a personal bank account up to GHS 140,000 per transfer or an MTN, AirtelTigo or Telecel wallet up to GHS 2,800, and Ghana is not on its list of places to hold money. Ask the Bank of Ghana about Wise's current status; until you have that in writing, do not choose this. Source
Direct bank transferWorksAsk your bank about a Foreign Exchange Account (FEA). The Bank of Ghana's notice of 27 August 2025 says no resident may invoice or receive foreign currency for goods or services in Ghana unless authorised, with one opening: foreign-currency invoices may go to non-residents or expatriates, with the proceeds paid into an FEA at a licensed bank. Banks label accounts differently, though. GCB describes its FEA as for money from domestic sources and its Foreign Currency Account (FCA) as funded only by remittances from abroad or other foreign-currency accounts, and asks for a Ghana Card to open either. Show your bank the notice and have it confirm in writing which account takes a USD fee from abroad. Source
Stablecoin (USDT/USDC)LimitedDo not choose this if it means invoicing or pricing your fee in tokens: the Bank of Ghana's February 2026 FAQ says it is not permissible to issue invoices, set prices or pay wages in virtual assets. Holding is not the problem, since the Bank says the law targets service providers, not personal ownership. Licensing is. The Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154) has passed, but when we checked on 2 November 2026 the Bank's virtual assets page still only promised its application page by the end of the third quarter of 2026 and named no licensed provider, so there is no official list to check a platform against. There is no deposit protection either. Source

Two more points before you give anyone your details. The Bank's December 2025 rules for money transfer operators settle in cedis with same-day conversion and bar payouts into business or corporate accounts, so give a personal account if one of them sits in the chain. And this is enforced: on 27 June 2025 the Bank named ten unapproved transfer firms, including Eversend and NairaGram, and in September 2025 it paused the remittance partnerships of five operators for a month, as Graphic reported. Once dollars are in an FEA or FCA, the Bank's May 2025 notice confirms cash withdrawals over the counter are allowed.

Tax and declaring the income

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) collects this, and your tax number is your Ghana Card. Since 1 April 2021 the Ghana Card PIN has replaced the old TIN for individuals, so sort out the card first. GRA's guidance names sole proprietors and partners alongside employees as people who must pay.

A fee from abroad is not outside the net. PwC's summary, reviewed on 27 October 2026, says resident individuals are taxed on worldwide income, and one of the residence tests is 183 days or more in the country in any 12 months. GRA allows a credit for foreign tax. Rates changed part-way through 2026: the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026 (Act 1178) applied from 1 September, with the first GHS 7,056 of annual chargeable income at nil and 35% above GHS 600,000. Ask a Ghanaian tax adviser how a rental fee is treated on form DT 103 and whether the 3% scheme below could apply.

  • File form DT 103. It goes through the GRA Taxpayers' Portal. GRA set 30 April 2026 for 2025 returns, and PwC describes the rule as four months after your basis period ends, with the balance due on filing.
  • Ask about estimates. GRA also lists a Self-Assessment Estimate (DT 104). We have not confirmed the instalment dates on GRA's own pages, so check its Tax Calendar or ask an office.
  • Do not assume the 3% scheme fits. Act 1178 sets 3% of turnover for individuals between GHS 20,000 and GHS 750,000. But GRA's Modified Taxation page limits the scheme to people earning only from their business and only from sources within Ghana, and steers qualified professionals such as lawyers and accountants elsewhere. A USD fee from abroad, or a salary alongside it, may take you out. That page and its scheme page still show the old GHS 500,000 ceiling, so confirm with GRA.

This is general information, not tax advice. Rules change; confirm your position with a local tax adviser.

Foreign-exchange, work-permit and Act 843 rules to check

Start with foreign exchange, because it carries criminal penalties. A 2022 Bank of Ghana notice puts unauthorised pricing, receipting or payment in foreign currency at up to 700 penalty units, up to 18 months in prison, or both. Those notices are aimed at dealings in Ghana. The practical line is to keep the fee from abroad in the account your bank confirms, and never to bill a Ghanaian resident in dollars.

Then the inbox. Section 67 of the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) exempts data an individual processes only for personal, family or household affairs from the data protection principles, and we would not assume that covers a paid outreach campaign. Whoever runs one is signed in as you and can see other people's messages. The Data Protection Commission says all controllers and processors must register, and we found nothing deciding whether an owner in this position counts as one. Ask the Commission, and move sensitive conversations off LinkedIn first. A replacement bill had still to reach Parliament in March 2026, and we found nothing later showing it has passed.

  • Foreign nationals on a work permit: section 28(3) of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573) stops you taking any other paid employment, business or professional occupation in Ghana without the written consent of the Immigrant Quota Committee. Get that answer first.
  • Public officers: Article 284 of the 1992 Constitution bars you from a position where personal interest conflicts or may conflict with your duties, as reported here. Raise it with your institution before applying.
  • Private-sector staff: we did not find a general Ghanaian rule on side income, so read the outside-work and confidentiality terms in your contract.

How much demand is there for profiles from Ghana?

Most companies buying this outreach sell into the US, and they look first for senior profiles located there. A profile based in Accra, Kumasi or Takoradi is usually outside that search, and some applicants from Ghana will get a no. That says nothing about your career; it reflects who is buying.

Your realistic opening is a company trying to reach decision-makers in Ghana, where your contacts are the people it wants to meet.

  • Stronger: a senior title with connections among managing directors, finance heads and procurement leads at Ghanaian firms.
  • Tell us if it applies: you built a network in the UK or US before coming home and those contacts still know you.
  • Weaker: a young or thin network, or one made up mainly of classmates and job-seekers.

We do not publish a list of eligible countries, and living in Ghana neither qualifies nor disqualifies you. A specialist reviews the actual profile. If you want a straight answer first, ask in the notes box when you apply.

How it works

  1. Apply, free. Industry, network size, commitment length. No documents, no fee.
  2. Human review. A specialist sends one monthly figure, normally within three business days, or says the profile is not a fit.
  3. You approve each campaign. Target lists and message templates come to you first, and your blocklist is set on an onboarding call.
  4. Daily payment from the day your campaign goes live, with a monthly log of everything sent. Pause any time; after the three-month initial term, 30 days' notice ends it.

The risk, in plain terms

LinkedIn’s User Agreement prohibits this directly. Its Don’ts (section 8.2) bar members from renting, leasing or otherwise monetising access to the service, and from using another member’s account, including by sharing log-in credentials or copying cookies. LinkedIn may restrict, suspend or permanently close an account it believes is shared, without warning.

That risk stays with you, and we do not indemnify you against losing the account or its connections. This is why we would not call it risk-free passive income, whatever other sites say. Read our safety and risk page and sections 4 and 5 of our Terms.

Businesses in Ghana: renting LinkedIn accounts for outreach

Section 40 of Act 843 governs outreach by a company in Ghana: a data controller may not use or obtain someone's information for direct marketing without that person's prior written consent. The section defines direct marketing as advertising or marketing material directed at particular individuals by any means, and its text has no carve-out for business contacts. Sections 27 and 53 also require you to register with the Data Protection Commission before processing personal data. LinkedIn's own terms are a separate matter: they prohibit renting account access, and satisfying Act 843 would not change that.

Our page for businesses explains how account-based outreach is run and what it costs to think through.

Questions people in Ghana ask

Can I receive LinkedIn rental payments on PayPal in Ghana?

No, not as a route you can count on. PayPal's own country list has no entry for Ghana, and the government's 2025 talks with PayPal have not visibly changed that. Use a bank wire, and be wary of anyone selling a workaround.

Can I use Wise or MTN Mobile Money for LinkedIn rental payments in Ghana?

We would not start there. Wise publishes cedi payouts to banks and to MTN, AirtelTigo and Telecel wallets, capped at GHS 2,800 per wallet transfer, but the Bank of Ghana named Wise as unapproved in November 2023 and we found no notice clearing it. Ask the Bank first. A wire into a dollar account avoids the question.

Which dollar account should I use in Ghana, FEA or FCA?

Ask for an FEA and get your bank to confirm. The Bank of Ghana's August 2025 notice says proceeds of foreign-currency invoices to non-residents go into a Foreign Exchange Account, yet GCB Bank describes its FCA as the one funded from abroad. Take the notice to your bank and have it say in writing which account fits a USD fee from abroad.

Can I be paid in USDT or USDC in Ghana?

We would pick another route. The Bank of Ghana says it is not permissible to issue invoices or set prices in virtual assets, and its licensing application page was still only a promise when we checked on 2 November 2026. Holding tokens is not the issue, because the law targets service providers. A bank wire keeps you clear of all this.

Do I have to declare LinkedIn rental income to GRA?

Plan on declaring it. PwC's summary says Ghana taxes residents on worldwide income, and the personal return is form DT 103, filed through GRA's Taxpayers' Portal. For 2025 returns the deadline was 30 April 2026. Ask a Ghanaian tax adviser how the fee is treated on that form, and do not assume the 3% scheme covers money from abroad.

Is renting out my LinkedIn real passive income in Ghana?

Not fully. After you approve the campaigns it needs little from you, and the fixed monthly fee is paid daily, but you still have a dollar account to clear with your bank and a DT 103 return to file. It also carries real risk: your account can be closed, since LinkedIn prohibits renting access, and a Ghana-based profile may wait a long time or be told no, because most buyers sell into the US.

I am a foreigner working in Accra on a work permit. Can I do this?

Not without checking first. Section 28(3) of Ghana's Immigration Act stops a permit holder taking other paid employment, business or professional occupation in Ghana without the Immigrant Quota Committee's written consent. Whether a fee from abroad counts is not something we can settle, so ask an immigration lawyer.
